Essential Questions to Ask During Your Indiana Wedding Venue Tour
Planning a wedding involves countless decisions, but choosing the perfect venue ranks among the most important. Your venue sets the tone for your entire celebration and significantly impacts your budget, guest experience, and overall wedding vision.
A venue tour isn't just about admiring beautiful spaces—it's your opportunity to gather crucial information that will help you make an informed decision. The right questions can reveal hidden costs, uncover potential issues, and ensure your dream wedding becomes reality.
This guide covers the essential questions every couple should ask during venue tours, along with our specific answers here at Bliss Barn. From practical logistics to budget considerations, these inquiries will help you evaluate each location thoroughly and choose the venue that perfectly matches your vision and needs.
Availability and Booking Details
Is my preferred date available?
Start with the most fundamental question. If your ideal date isn't available, ask about alternative dates nearby. Some venues offer discounts for off-peak dates or weekdays.

What's included in the rental fee?
Understand exactly what you're paying for. Some venues include tables, chairs, linens, and basic lighting, while others provide only the space. This knowledge helps you compare venues accurately and budget for additional rentals.
Here at Bliss Barn we include tables, 8 farm tables, 30 round tables, 8 rectangle tables, 300 reception chairs, white table linens, 300 ceremony chairs, choice of 3 outdoor ceremony sites, 1 indoor ceremony site, cupcake cupboard, large selection of decorations, 6 whiskey barrels, bridal house that sleeps 12, clean up crew for house and barn, catered breakfast Saturday morning, and day of coordination.
How long can we use the venue?
Clarify your rental period, including setup and breakdown time. Some venues charge extra for extended hours or early access for decorating. Ask about overtime fees if your celebration runs late.
We offer multi day rentals that include Friday and Saturday or Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This allows for plenty of time for set up, a rehearsal and a space for a rehearsal dinner. We also have a five bedroom bridal house on site that is included for bridal parties to stay and get ready for their big day in.
What's your cancellation and refund policy?
Life happens, and wedding plans sometimes change. Understanding the venue's cancellation terms protects your investment and provides peace of mind.
In the case you have to cancel, we have a $1,500 nonrefundable policy.
Capacity and Layout Questions
What's the maximum capacity for both ceremony and reception?
Venues often have different capacity limits for seated dinners versus cocktail receptions. Ensure the space comfortably accommodates your guest list without feeling cramped or empty.
Bliss Barn can comfortable seat up to 300 guests. We’ve also hosted weddings as few as 20.
Can you show me different layout options?
Ask to see floor plans or photos of various setups. This helps you visualize how your ceremony and reception will flow and whether the space suits your celebration style.
Bliss Barn is totally customizable! During your tour and throughout your planning process we have different setup and layout examples available for reference.
Where will the ceremony take place if weather doesn't cooperate?
For venues with outdoor ceremony options, always have a backup plan. Indoor alternatives should be equally beautiful and accommodate all your guests comfortably.
As much as we hope for great weather, it is unpredictable at times here in Indiana. Although our outdoor ceremony sites are beautiful, the ceremony can be easily transitioned inside if needed. We have three options depending on guest count. First, the ceremony can be held on the main level of the barn. Second, with ~120 guests, the ceremony can be held in the loft. And lastly, the ceremony can be held on the covered patio.
Are there any restrictions on decor or setup?
Some venues have strict rules about decorations, candles, confetti, or wall hangings. Understanding these limitations early prevents disappointment and additional costs later.
We love seeing each couple’s personal vision come to life with their chosen decorations! Some restrictions we have are no open flames, real candles, Mylar confetti, artificially colored flower petals inside on barn floor, and no decorations to be hung from ceiling.
Vendor and Catering Policies
Do you have preferred vendors, or can we choose our own?
Many venues maintain preferred vendor lists and may charge fees for outside vendors. Ask about any restrictions or additional costs for bringing in your chosen photographers, florists, or entertainment.
We do have a recommended vendor list. This is a list of vendors that have been to Bliss Barn that past couples have loved. They are familiar with the layout and flow of our property. There are no fees for brining vendors not on our list.
What are your catering options and requirements?
Some venues require you to use their in-house catering, while others allow outside caterers with restrictions. Understand your options, tasting opportunities, and any associated fees.
Here at Bliss Barn, we do not have in house catering. We have a few professional catering companies past couples have used and loved.
Are there kitchen facilities available for caterers?
If using outside catering, ensure adequate kitchen space and equipment are available. Some venues charge extra for kitchen access or require specific insurance from caterers.
We do not have kitchen facilities for catering staff to use. All food must arrive prepared.
What's your alcohol policy?
Clarify whether the venue provides bar service, allows outside alcohol, or requires you to purchase through their suppliers. Ask about corkage fees, bartender requirements, and liability considerations.
All alcohol must be purchased through Bliss Barn and served by our licensed bartender. You may select from a list of beer, wine and or liquor. Pricing ranges depending on quantity and items you’d like to be served.
Logistics and Practical Considerations
What parking is available for guests?
Adequate parking is crucial for guest convenience. Ask about parking capacity, costs, valet services, and alternative transportation options like shuttle services.
Our gravel parking lot can accommodate 80 cars. Additional parking is located in the grass near parking lot.
Are there bridal suites or getting-ready spaces?
Many couples want to prepare at the venue. Ask about available spaces for getting ready, their amenities, and any additional fees.
The Bliss Bridal Suite is included in all packages. This renovated farm house has five bedrooms and sleeps 12.
What restroom facilities are available?
Ensure adequate restroom facilities for your guest count. For outdoor venues, ask about portable restroom options and their quality standards.
Our restrooms are located inside the barn.
How is the venue accessible for guests with mobility challenges?
Consider all your guests' needs. Ask about ramps, elevator access, accessible parking, and restroom facilities for guests with disabilities.
Our outdoor property consists of grassy areas and gravel pathways. There is a circle drive that guests with any mobility challenges can be dropped off close to the doors. Both restrooms have adequate space for guests with mobility challenges.
Technical and Service Details
What audio-visual equipment is available?
For ceremonies and speeches, you'll likely need microphones and speakers. Ask what's included and what you'll need to rent separately.
Is there reliable Wi-Fi and cell service?
Your photographer, DJ, and guests will appreciate good connectivity. Poor service can impact everything from music streaming to social media sharing.
WiFi and cell service is available on our property.

What's your payment schedule?
Understand when deposits are due, final payment deadlines, and accepted payment methods. Some venues offer payment plans to help manage costs.

Are there any additional fees we should know about?
Ask specifically about setup fees, cleaning charges, security deposits, vendor fees, overtime costs, and any other potential expenses.

Making Your Final Decision
After touring multiple venues, you'll have plenty of information to process. Create a comparison chart listing each venue's pros, cons, and costs. Consider factors beyond price, including location convenience for guests, overall ambiance, and how well the venue staff understands your vision.
Remember that the perfect venue should feel right emotionally while also meeting all your practical needs. Trust your instincts, but make sure they're supported by thorough research and clear answers to all your questions.
Your wedding venue will serve as the backdrop for one of life's most important celebrations.
