Things to Do in Grant County, Indiana

Many of our couples that come to Bliss Barn are from larger cities surrounding Fairmount such as Indianapolis or Fort Wayne, Indiana. Grant County is known for its rich history, vibrant culture and picturesque landscapes. This charming Midwest destination has something for everyone.   1. Savor in Local Delights

No trip to Grant County is complete without indulging in its local cuisine. Stop by a fan favorite (located less than a mile from Bliss Barn) Grains & Grill or Bad Dad Brewery. Located in Fairmount, Indiana, this adjoined restaurant and brewery has something for everyone. Grains & Grill offers a wine selection of burgers, tenderloins, steaks and more. A must try if you’re looking for something sweet is Ivanhoes. Ivanhoes is located in Upland, Indiana, near Taylor University. They are known for their classic family-friendly dining and the best ice cream around. Choose from 100 sundae and 100 shake flavors. If you’re in need of a pick me up, there is no shortage of coffee shops. Some of our favorites are The Branch in Fairmount, The Abbey Coffee Co. in Marion and Milk and Honey Coffee Co. in Converse.

2. Farmers Markets

Grant County is known for its fresh produce, artisanal goods, and friendly local vendors. The farmers markets in the area highlight the agricultural richness of Indiana while offering a fun and family-friendly activity for visitors.

Visit the Fairmount Farmers Market every first Saturday June through October, 10am to 2pm. Enjoy local vendors selling baked goods, handmade goods and boutique items. Grab a bite to eat from one of the delicious food trucks and enjoy live music. This event is kid friendly and often has kids activities such as a petting farm and face painting. Located in the Grains and Grill parking lot.

Upland Farmers Market is a year around event. Visit their indoor winter market every Saturday 10am to 2pm at 405 West Washington Street, Upland, Indiana or their summer market Fridays 4pm to 7pm at Upland Park. This is a producer-only market that emphasizes handcrafted, homegrown foods and products.

3. James Dean

If you’re a fan of the Golden Age of Hollywood, a visit to the James Dean Gallery in Fairmount is a must. It pays tribute to the legendary actor who grew up in Grant County. You’ll find memorabilia, photographs, and exhibits that give insight into the life and legacy of one of America’s most iconic stars. Don’t forget to visit the nearby James Dean Memorial Park and the Fairmount Historical Museum to continue the experience.

Held annually in Fairmount, the James Dean Festival is a lively celebration of the actor’s life and legacy. Between the classic car shows, a parade, and live music, there’s something for every attendee to enjoy. Check it out September 26, 2025-September 28, 2025.

Matter Park

Located in Marion, Arbor Trace Golf Club offers a beautifully maintained 18-hole course that's perfect for both seasoned golfers and newcomers.
